Aikido
Instructor: Tsuneo Ando

Tsuneo Ando with Gozo Shioda
Ando Sensei began learning Aikido while at university, obtaining
the rank of second dan in Aikikai Aikido.
Soon
after however, he changed to Yoshinkan Aikido, attracted by the
powerful techniques of Kancho Gozo Shioda, the founder of Yoshinkan
Aikido.
For
14 years Tsuneo Ando studied as an "uchi deshi", an in-house
student at the Yoshinkan headquarters in Tokyo. After this time
he received his 6th dan and the title of "Shihan" or master
teacher. In 1996, Ando Sensei founded Yoshinkan Aikido Ryu, and
has continued both studying and teaching Aikido in Japan and all
over the world.
About
This Aikido Style:
Yoshinkan
Aikido "Ryu" is an Aikido group headed by Shihan Tsuneo
Ando (sixth dan, Yoshinkan Aikido).
The group is located in Chiba prefecture, Japan. The group has dojos
in Urayasu, Funabashi, Chiba City, Matsudo, Kisarazu, Nishi Kasai,
Canada, and more on the way.
The
focus of Ando Sensei's teaching and training is to strengthen and
master the principle of "Chu-Shin Ryoku", or focused center
power, as taught by Kancho Gozo Shioda.
As
opposed to techniques that are applied mainly by force, Ando Sensei's
Aikido is characterized by a repertoire of techniques that do not
make an opponent feel that you are "the enemy".
Ando
Sensei's ultimate aim is to practice and teach Aikido in such a
way that makes it accessible to anyone. It is our hope that we have
at least partially accomplished this goal through this website.

Hi,my
name is Pat McDonnell and I am your host and the head honcho of
Aikido-Videos.com. If you ever have any questions or problems about
the content or material on this site, then please let us know about
it by using our contact page.
I
first encountered Aikido at university. Actually, it wasn't Aikido.
It was Hopkido, the Korean version of Aikido. It wasn't a real dojo
or school. It was just a club. We didn't have uniforms or tests,
but it was enough to spark my interest to go to Japan and learn
more.
After going to a couple of dojos and checking out
several different styles, I decided upon Yoshinkan. The reason I
chose Yoshinkan was because: I found a dojo close to where I lived,
many of my fellow students spoke English, and Yoshinkan seemed to
be a little more "real" than some of the other styles
I observed.
However,
with out a doubt the main reason for my choice was my teacher. I
was very fortunate to stumble upon a true professional and living
legend. His name is Tsuneo Ando and it has been my true pleasure
to introduce him to you here.
We wish you all the best and keep training.
